Roland Digital Pianos

Comments and Questions

I recently purchased a Roland FP-7 digital piano.  The main reason(s) I chose it were (1) good rating from you (2) great sale price ($1500, marked down from $2000).

The piano has a one-year warrantee, although the salesman was quick to point out
that it would be my responsibility to pack it and ship it to Los Angeles for the repair work.

Ultimately, he talked me into paying $125 for a 3-year guarantee from the store.  With this plan, I simply have to bring the piano back to the store and they will repair it.

Was this $125 well spent, or is the quality of these instrument so good that need for repairs is very rare?

Appreciate your comment.  Thank you.

Reply/ Hi Tom

Roland digital pianos have a low percentage of
failure. Usually around 1%.

So, the odds are heavily on your side that it
wouldn't develop a fault.

As with all extended warranties, the shop that
offers them makes money. But, this is something
you will (or already have?) to decide.

My name is Marshall Reid, and I live in San Antonio, TX, USA. I am just now
learning about digital pianos. I'm wanting to get my 3 kids started taking
piano lessons, and I'd like to learn too, but we need a piano first. I
found a Roland RP 101 at a pawn shop for $699, which seems to be a great
price compared to what they retail for. I have not seen it (just saw a
classified ad), so I don't know about its condition. However, assuming it's
in good condition, would you recommend me buying it? In other words, is it
a good enough digital piano to buy at that price, or would you recommend
that I go for a different model, even if I have to pay more?

Any help and advice you could give would be appreciated.

Thanks for the information you provided online. It's been very helpful.

Reply/ Hi Marshall

The Roland RP101 would be a good choice for you
and your kids. The key touch is a little on the
light side, but it will be OK.

$699 is a pretty good price!
